2Wish Foundation

Bereavement charity 2Wish was created to ensure those affected by the sudden and traumatic death of a child or young adult aged 25 or under throughout Wales receive the bereavement support they deserve. Initially, it was set up to support parents who have suddenly suffered bereavement by Rhian Manning MBE following the death of her one-year-old son and her husband who died five days later. Since then it has grown to offer professional support to families, individuals, witnesses and professionals. Trustees of the charity include Coldplay drummer Will Champion, TV presenter Nick Knowles and actor Michael Sheen.

Cancer Research UK

Our scientists are currently working to develop new treatments for children with blood cancer. In Birmingham, Professor Brenda Gibson is leading an international clinical trial to find new treatments for children with Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). The trial will test if a new combination of drugs can decrease the risk of the cancer returning and reduce the side effects. If successful, this work could transform how we treat children and young people with this disease. Today, around 8 in 10 children and young people with cancer will survive for at least ten years.

The Catrin Vaughan Foundation

Named in Catrin’s memory the foundation was set up to provide children with additional learning needs with facilities and equipment not normally provided by the local authority. Catrin was a teacher at Ysgol Glannau Gwaun, Fishguard and taught pupils aged 7-11 years old within the Learning Resource Centre at the school. All the children within the class had additional learning needs. Items purchased by the foundation for those in need include digital tablets, a therapy trike, communication boards and a donation towards a motorised wheelchair that adapts as the child grows.

Cerebra

Cerebra is a national charity that supports children living with a brain condition and their families. We work closely with families to find out where help is most needed and fund the relevant research to provide health and social care advice and support for the whole family. Our approach aims to reduce the prevalence of preventable disabling conditions and also to empower families by providing them with the knowledge and support they need.

We work with families, academics and practitioners to fund life-changing research into; Pregnancy, Mental Health, Family Research, Complex Disorders and Rare Conditions, Sleep, Legal Entitlements, and Creative Design.

We then provide research-driven, high-quality advice and support for children and their families. From helping families who have difficulties accessing the support services they desperately need, to making bespoke toys for children to learn, play and take part in the things they love, we help children and families discover a better life together.

In the UK today, there are around half a million children and young people with brain conditions that result in complex medical, educational and social support needs. Our vision is to be able to reach every one of these families.

Child Bereavement UK - London

Child Bereavement UK helps families to rebuild their lives when a child grieves or when a child dies. We support children and young people (up to the age of 25) when someone important to them has died or is not expected to live, and parents and the wider family when a baby or child of any age dies or is dying.

We provide training to professionals in health and social care, education, the emergency services and the voluntary and corporate sectors, equipping them to provide the best possible care to bereaved families.

Home-Start believes that children need a happy and secure childhood and that parents and carers play the key role in giving their children a good start in life and helping them to achieve their full potential.

We provide a unique service; recruiting and training volunteers who themselves have parenting experience, to work with families in their own homes, building supportive relationships and responding directly to the family’s individual needs.

A network of Home-Start charities throughout the UK offer support within local communities , to help children to get the best start in life. Each local Home-Start is independently funded, managed locally and has the support of our national organisation Home-Start UK. Home-Start Rochdale and Bury has a proven, lasting, positive impact on the development of children and the health and welfare of the entire family.

Momentum Children's Cancer Charity - Surrey & Brighton

We support families whose children are facing cancer or a life-challenging condition. We partner with local hospitals to offer personally tailored support to the entire family through our family support workers, both in hospital and at home.

Our support services include counselling, creative therapies, experiences and respite breaks. We also improve the environment for children treated in hospital with our children’s ward refurbishments; transforming bare, clinical areas into bright, child-friendly spaces.

We’re there whatever the outcome, for as long as we’re needed, so that no family has to cope alone.

We currently support around 300 families whose child is in active treatment and a further 130 bereaved families. Thousands more benefit from our hospital makeovers.

Mudchute Farm Park - London

Established in the 1970s, Mudchute Park and Farm is one of the largest city farms in Europe. With 32 acres of countryside, located a stone's throw away from the hustle and bustle of Canary Wharf, the farm is a place where everyone can experience rural life without leaving the city.

Mudchute is a major resource for schools in Tower Hamlets, providing a successful outreach centre that uses the natural resources of the farm as a tool for a wide range of learning experiences. This fantastic natural setting coupled with the wonderful farm facilities enables us to offer children a combination of experiences that are quite unique in Tower Hamlets or indeed any Inner City area. Care for the environment is at the heart of all we do at Mudchute, we have a wonderful site which is open to the public and offers education and entertainment for everyone.

Mudchute preserves the open space and makes it available for events, community groups or just your simple family picnic, and where else do you get to share your lunch break with friendly fur and feathered creatures.

NI Children's Hospice

Our hospice care services both in the community and in our buildings provide high quality, person-centred, holistic palliative care. We support and care for infants, children and adults who are adjusting to life living with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, up to their death and into family bereavement support.

Our team of specially trained healthcare professionals are made up of nurses, doctors, social workers, chaplains, occupational therapists, creative therapists and physiotherapists, all of whom, work together to support our patients’ physical, mental and spiritual well-being.

Noah's Ark Children's Hospital Charity

Here at the Noah’s Ark Charity we believe passionately that all children in Wales should get the best possible hospital care. Working with the NHS, we aim to provide the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales with state of the art equipment, facilities and family support services. Helping to ensure the best treatment and outcomes possible for its young patients.

The Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital Charity fundraises exclusively for the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales. We are run by a small dedicated team of staff and volunteers and governed by our board of trustees.

Originally set up as an appeal to fund the actual building and equipment for the hospital’s first phase, today we raise funds for specialist medical equipment and facilities. This has included pioneering medical equipment, facilities and family support services. We are also delighted to be able to commit significant funding to support the work of the play specialist team, who provide therapeutic care for children going through difficult procedures at the hospital.

While we have met these costs, we do not relieve the NHS of its core responsibilities nor do we fund the running costs of the hospital.

Pembrokeshire Sibling Group

The Pembrokeshire Sibling Group was set up in 1996 by a small group of professional people who realised that there was no support for the siblings of disabled and special needs children. We appreciate the difficulties that can arise when there is a special needs, disabled or seriously sick child in the family. Often this can lead to stress and anxiety in the other children in the family. We offer much needed respite to the siblings of disabled children or children with special needs in order to relieve the tension and provide them with something to look forwards to where they will be with others who understand what it is like being such a sibling.

We have a dedicated team who provide support to children and young people aged 7 - 18 years who we work with during our monthly day trips and workshops. We also try to run three residential trips throughout the year, typically in March, August and October. Our workshops provide a base where the siblings can get together with other children and young people who are in similar situations to themselves. We use many methods to work with the siblings, including puppet's, arts and crafts and cooking, where our aim is to raise awareness of their situations and share experiences with each other. Our ultimate aim is to put the childhood back into the child.

RDA Barrow Farm - Essex

Our purpose built riding centre located between Chelmsford and Brentwood in Essex is dedicated to enabling people with special needs and disabilities to develop their abilities and enrich their lives by riding and interacting with horses. 137 rides and carriage drives take place each week, supported by over 100 volunteers and 10 beautifully natured horses.

5 special schools bring a total of 32 riders to us each week. Their teachers tell us “Riding at Barrow Farm brings real joy to our children’s faces. The children have lots of chat and use lots of language to describe what they are doing. It helps them with learning to follow instructions and routines and gives them an understanding of how to interact with other creatures. It builds upper body and core muscles and is great for balance and confidence. We have seen definite improvement in some of the children’s core strength. We know the children are enjoying it because some of them are silent rather than making their usual ‘strimming’ noises. Some are able to articulate their enjoyment with language and others show positive body language such as clapping, smiling, laughing. The children are happy and excited and look forward to their riding each week. We have seen lots of positive behaviour and everything is amazing.”

Richard House Children's Hospice - London

Richard House Children's Hospice based in East London, provides palliative care to children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions across London. Our vision is for communities to have space where they can journey together to create memories of living and dying.

Opened in 2000, Richard House was London’s first children’s hospice. It was founded by our Life-President Anthea Hare, who was inspired by her experience as a paediatric nurse at Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. Today we support more than 188 families from Newham, Barking, Dagenham, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest, Hackney, Redbridge, Haringey, Islington, Ilford, Camden and into South Essex.

Sandy Bear

Sandy Bear is a registered charity providing a service to all children and young people up to 18 years who have suffered, or who are likely to suffer, a bereavement and live in Pembrokeshire.

We believe that every child and young person should have the opportunity to thrive and to be the very best that they can be. For some children and young people, the death of a loved one will turn their world upside down in an instant, leaving them bereft.

Sandy Bear is a not-for-profit charity dedicated to improving and strengthening the emotional health and well-being of young people aged 0-18 (and their families), who have experienced the death of a loved one. We aim to reduce emotional difficulties in childhood and the prevalence of mental illness in later life that can result in a decreased quality of life, poorer educational attainment, social and health problems and increased vulnerability.

SNAP

SNAP Specialist Playgroup is an established registered charity based in Child Health Dept, Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire.

Children and their families are referred to the service by Health professionals who have identified delays within the childs development.

Snap playgroup work in collaboration with a multi agency team of professionals to support the individual needs of the child by providing bespoke Early Intervention and assessment through play therapy.

Every child is allocated a highly skilled and experienced one to one Play Specialist Support worker during their time at Snap who also provide support to the family, working in partnership to celebrate milestones that their child may reach through the interventions applied.

Teenage Cancer Trust - Birmingham

Every day, seven young people aged 13-24 hear the words “you have cancer”. They will each need specialised nursing care and support to get them through it. Teenage Cancer Trust are the only UK charity dedicated to meeting this vital need – so no young person faces cancer alone.

Teenage Cancer Trust offers unique care and support, designed for and with young people. We fund specialised nurses, youth workers and hospital units in the NHS, so young people have dedicated staff and facilities to support them throughout treatment.

We run events for young people with cancer to help them regain independence and meet other young people going through something similar.

And we provide easy-to-understand information about every aspect of living with cancer as a young person.
